Pickett Street Properties is dedicated to serving the community and is highlighting businesses and community members that are dedicated to doing the same. In this highlight we are excited to share about Mackenzie Banta, Owner of Well With Mac. Here is her story:
I became a certified health coach after teaching yoga and instructing fitness for a few years because I noticed so many of my clients struggle to reach their health goals with exercise alone. I knew from my independent health studies and my own weight loss journey that exercise is only part of the healthy lifestyle equation, so I went for the extra training to coach behavior change encompassing nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle factors.
My business is a health coaching business created to facilitate my work helping people transform their lives through nutrition and exercise to create an overall healthier life. My mission is to empower millennial women to heal their bodies from the inside out with balanced and personalized nutrition, functional and fun movement, and transformative coaching.
What I love most about what I do is watching people start to love and respect their bodies again. It’s not just their bodies that change, it’s their mind, their outlook and their expressions.
I find a lot of motivation within myself. I went through a very hard time with my health after graduating from college. I wasn’t happy, I was stressed, drinking a lot and not exercising and because of that I gained weight, had acne and didn’t sleep well. What I realize now was that there was also a lot of underlying feelings of unworthiness and lack of self respect that led me to that state. Today I am confident, have tons of respect for myself and my health and as a result I eat well, exercise almost daily, and am the most fit I have ever been. I see the same thing in so many other people, especially those around my age group who are experiencing a more turbulent time in their lives figuring out who they are and what they stand for and want in life.
In the health field I closely follow several people in the health world for their groundbreaking research and writing. To name a few of my favorites: Dr. Joel Fuhrman who founded the term “nutritatian” and wrote “Eat to Live”, Dr. Jason Fung who wrote “The Obesity Code” and challenges the way we treat lifestyle-induced disease and Dr. Mark Hyman, who works in the field of functional medicine. For business strategy and inspiration I consume materials from the likes of Gary Vayneychuck, Marie Forleo, and even Brene Brown. So much of the work that I do is simply showing up for others and being vulnerable, which something I work on every day!
My favorite quotes include:
“You either walk inside your story and own it or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness.” – Brene Brown
“You have the life you are willing to put up with.” -Gary Bishop
“You make your choices and then your choices make you.” -Darren Hardy
“Caring for your health is the highest form of self-care and self-respect.” –Me / Mackenzie Banta
